Default T/A Instrument Cluster

I need to replace my cluster and I know it plugs in. But, I hope I don't sound stupid, but if I get a replacement and plug it in will my mileage display? I'm assuming the PCM stores that data.

Im fairly sure that the mileage is stored in the cluster. So if you swap in a new cluster, you get a new mileage number. Someone may call me out on this, but im 90% sure.

the mileage is stored in the PCM, if you can get a GM tech to look at it they can reprogram the cluster with the correct mileage. Or so i was told.

This doesn't sound as easy as getting a replacement and plugging it in, but seems that's the way it always goes.

I had to get a new one once cause my fuel gauge decided to stop working, and they had to store all my information in there system they used a certian computer. I;m not exactly sure, try calling a dealership. I still have the warrentee on mine so i just brought it down to a chevy dealership, but i know the owner. Just make a call to the service department see what they say

I worked at a Chevy dealer for 3 years as a service advisor, from 03 to 05. Every car I remember replacing a cluster on, the mileage is stored in the cluster. There are only a couple of companies that fix them and they certify the mileage. Dealers and legit shops have to use one of these places to be in compliance. You CAN toss another cluster in there but it will show the mileage of the car it was pulled from.

I will double check but I am 99.999% sure that it's the same deal on f-bodies.

not a stupid Q at all...you need to get your cluster reprogramed by a dealer tho if you want the real mileage back.
