Question Under hood wire mod??

I'm thinking about going on and doing this after seeing 97ramsst's car.

Just a quick question. Do I really have to wrap the wires up with electric tape? I mean the connections are waterproof. Electric tape gets all nasty then after a while it just falls off.

So is there anything else I could use instead if I even really do need to wrap them up?

buy GOOD electrical tape and it won't fall off. Not that 99 cent crap at the convience store. I have rolls of these at home.

Here are a few additional tips for anyone wanting to do this.

If drilling from inside the wheel well, drill a pilot hole first. This will give you a chance to review the location from topside before you drill your big hole.

By all means, file that hole. Also, use a grommet around that hole. A grommet this size is tough to find at local brick and mortar stores.

1 1/2" x 1/8" x 1 3/4" x 2 1/8" x 1/2" RUBBER GROMMET (OMAR-2875)

Also, consider protecting the cable assembly with “Economy Discharge Hose". This is the super flexible hose used for pumping out pools. It is flat when water is not being pushed through it. I ran it from just inside the engine bay near the PCM to the battery. I wrapped the cable bundle/hose at the PCM tightly w/ black electrical tape to help keep water out and cover up the blue hose at that end. If you try this, I would suggest the next larger size than 2”. I used 2" hose, but it was a PITA to get all the connectors through.

first off, i used electrical duct tape. its much stronger than normal electrical tape.

secondly, i used a grommet found at pep boys, ill attach a picture of its package:

Maybe it's just me but why even wrap them up? I use the power washer at the car wash and spray the wires with that as it is now. I mean they will be in a better spot after the mod (less chance of getting wet) the connections are water proof.

Wrapped mine up near the connection "just in case". Then just velcroed them up. Done....

1 1/2" then file it smooth you might need to file a little extra off because the 1 1/2 hole is a very tight fit for the connectors
