cleaning floor mats
I have floor mats that are black with the firebird and "trans am" stitched on them in red. The driver's side mat is really dirty, especially the red stitching. I've tried carpet cleaners and doing it by hand, but the thread is still not red like i'd like it. Should I try washing it in a washing machine, or is that dumb? If so, any specifics on what setting? Should I dry it or use the drying machine?

i run mine through the washing machine. what i did was
1. wait till your wife is NOT home
2. dump a bunch of soap in and turn it on
3. let them air dry were your wife wont see them
i didnt doing anything special as far a settings. and they came out like new. then again they werent stained or anything but they came out like new. i would definetly not put them in the dryer

Go to the grocery store and rent you a rug doctor. We rented one to clean our carpet in the house but also used it to clean the carpet in the car and the floor mats.
We cleaned the carpet and mats out of my moms '97 Lexus and it made it look brand new. You should see how much dirt it pulls out from the carpet. The plastic container that holds the water was black from all the dirt.
The machine comes with a small handle just like a vacuum cleaner has and will not damage the mats or the stitching.

I bought my wife a new Bissell pro heat steam cleaner. Use the **** out of it! I tried it on my SLP floor mats and did a really nice job. I've tried the pressure wash before on other plastic mats but not carpet ones. It sounds like it would work well also. Good luck!
