Fuel Rail Covers - Biggest LS1 rip-off?

Fuel Rail Covers - Biggest LS1 rip-off?
Here is a question I've been pondering for a couple years now. Why do LS1 fuel rail covers cost so damn much? I've seen stock Corvette ones selling for $80-95 used on ebay, and some aftermarket fiberglass or carbon fiber ones selling for $275-300!
Does anyone else here think that two boring slabs of ABS plastic that really don't have a performance function should cost so much?
When is someone going to develop some nice looking FRCs for Camaros/Firebirds and sell them at $30-40 per pair? They would sell a TON of them.
If I had the time I'd pursue getting some made. Maybe have "LS1TECH" on them

No crap, I like them, but I can spend $200 on something else that will make me go faster. How hard is it to make a mold like that anyways???

I was really suprised to see that the FRCs that i ordered were made out of the same material as the license cover piece.I thought they were fabricated out of sheet metal. You should have seen the look on my face
It was an expensive mod to say the least.I'm happy with how they look though,it was one of those things i had to have and i didn't care what the cost was.
I feel the f-body looks incomplete without them, the LS1 really isn't much of a motor to look at IMO.

Yea, making them would be cheap.. getting the mold made and tooling is what is expensive.. and that makes the price high (I assume) so unless you going to sell a TON of them then you have a high price since there are less to spread the develpment costs over...
They really do clean up the engine bay though.. also a nice place to be creative and individulize your car
My fbody concepts ones were $250!!.. but at least the pretty much fit right..

They look great, but,IMO they would seem to hold the heat in instead of releasing it. I would drive the car without them and install them at shows. Nobody sees your engine bay when you are driving anyway?

GM parts direct, ~$50 ONLY cutting I had to do to fit my '98, was where the throttle cable bracket is. If you use pn's 12556455 and 12559261 (one for each side, forget which is which though) then the driver-side comes already cut for 2 fuel lines, and thats less fabrication you have to do

Custom making mine, I'll have pix soon .
**As for a write up, not to much to really explain. I can show you a picture of where you will need to make the cuts, and then I used some JB weld plastic filler to fill in the corvette.

i customized my own. i spent around $40 on the frcs themselves from gmpartsdirect. then another 20-30 on the paint and plastic filler.
as to why they are priced so expensive (ripoff to me too), you would think that the seller would haul themselves under the hood of your car to spend the time (well i took a few hours) cutting them to fit right.

I like what Mike Brown did on his car. Simple, cheap, and effective. Just used some polished mteal and bent some rail covers. They are not as big and obtrusive either.

Personally I think the biggest LS1 ripoffs are GM giving us a Piece of *hit rearend that can't handle the potential of this engine and sticking in window motors that need replaced on 1/2 the cars. Now that's a ripoff.
