Default Underhood cleaning

So I bought this car from the original owner back in June, and I don't think he ever took a rag under the hood other than to check the oil. This car has 33K miles and otherwise has been properly maintained.

So for anyone who cares, I will post my first real cleaning of this car (underhood only) over the next week.

This is what I started with today. Bone stock down to the delco battery, and very dirty:

This is why I'm staying with a paper filter:

One afternoon and a few mods later....slp lid...optima battery...fram filter:

I was only able to clean the lower air box and the plastic/painted metal around the battery area. I got a long way to go, but I'll keep posting....Thanks Dan

Good job man. May I ask how you are going to be cleaning this? (tools, spray ect...)
This looks a little worse than mine but I want to also get mine cleaner.

Thanks

i need to do a touch up on mine also. i was thinking of just using a spray bottle of water and just using a towel and wiping it all down.

It isn't that easy though. There are so many wires and a lot of the dirt doesn't come up.

I am taking the long way on this one. Lots of rags, shop towels, tooth brushes, q-tips, plastic cleaner, glass cleaner, paint cleaner, plastic shine, and water. Lot's of wet cleaning first, then buffing. I'm pretty much trying to get all accesible areas clean, unbolting if necessary. This thing is dirty for only 6 years old.

Damn work has not allowed me to do any more today. I did get to drive with the new lid installed and was very pleased, though.

I hope to get back to it again tomorrow.

looks good man(black is always hardest to keep clean but looks best when it is clean), the long way on cleaning it is the best way to go, that's the route i always take and the little details are noticeable. good luck man. keep posting up pics of your progression,
