Question on legality of VHT
So my friend hooked me up with some VHT nightshade over the weekend, only one can, and not enough to do the whole tail light. Its cool, was going to do that later, whatever. Anyway, I would like to black out the amber markers in the front on the sides, and the red markers on the back sides. My question...blacking those 4 markers illegal or no?

Really, cuz I have been pulled over at least 4 times since doin mine & never had a word spoken about them. I have all my side markers, third brake light & entire tail section done/cleared.
I thought the only time it was illegal is if they were completely blacked out where no light could shine thru. All my lights still shine thru just fine at night & have no red tint to them as stated above. My ambers look amber & same for red looking red.

So, sides will look good, even with stock front/back lights?

yes...i have my sides done but not tails...there is already enough black in your tailight panel that it will still go good with the VHT markers...i highly doubt you would get pulled over for nightshade on the markers...they arent even going to notice them 99.9% of the time

I intend that if I ever get VHT (still not sure considering the rest of the car, the body being kinda rough, it being a V6, and all that, don't want to be associated with the ricer crowd who does appearance stuff on a beat up car or anything...) is just darken, not black out. I think it would look better on my car and then if they aren't blacked out there is much less reason for anyone to have an issue with it.

To the people who say its not illegal: All external lighting fixtures have to be approved by the DOT. THey Have DOT markings on them to show that they are legal. To be DOT approved they need to conform to certain DOT standards. Changing them at all voids the DOT certification. Cops usually arent taking the time to inspect for that, they have bigger fish to fry. The bottom line though is that they are illegal if modified in any way, and you can be cited for it.
