Is my converter cooked?
Yesterday it appears the pump on my 4L60e tranny went bad. I made a dumb*** mistake of letting the car idle for 10-15 minutes (trying to troubleshoot) before realizing that the pump was not pushing any fluid through the tranny. Will that 15 minutes of no pump action fry my converter? I have an aftermarket converter and would like to use it after getting the tranny fixed/replaced if possible. Thanks.

May have gotten real warm but I think it should be okay since it wasn't actually making the transmission move it was just idling. I would however send it back to the manufacture or find a local trans shop that could flush the convertor before I installed it in another unit

Not sure why it isn't pumping any tranny fluid. I took both hoses off of my tranny cooler and let it idle. Hardly any fluid came out. The fluid level on the dipstick shows overfull. The level was just right when I last checked it and I haven't added any fluid. The tranny will not engage in OD, D, R, 2, or 1. It act's like it is in neutral.

The converter has been working fine for the last 3 years. Could it be the problem though? I don't want to replace my tranny only to find out my converter is the problem. Thanks.

If very little fluid was pumping out of the lines then you definitely have a pump issue. I would suspect that either the filter is filled with debris or you have a severely damaged pump. If the pump rotor is broken then the converter hub will have signs of damage. Either way the unit and the converter in my opinion need to be completely gone through. Vince

I am going to swap out my tranny. If I take out my converter and bring it to a tranny shop will they be able to determine if it is still good? Or do I need to send it out to be checked? Thanks.

Who can cut it open and check it out for me? It is a Fuddle. I don't want to send it to them because I have read stories lately that they are not responding to calls very quickly. How much can I expect to pay to have someone check it out? Thanks.

I just called a local reputable tranny shop and told the guy about my pump going bad. He said my converter should be fine as long as there are no metal particles in the fluid. Does that sound right?
I am going to drop the pan and check it out. Thanks.
