Converter not stalling properly?
Okay I've made a few threads about my 60' times sucking so bad for my setup. On street tires or on drag radials, doesn't matter, I can launch from idle all the way to 2000 rpms and every time it dead hooks and I get mid to high 1.8 60' times, best being a 1.85. The tires do not spin as long as I heat them up good. So its not a traction issue at all. The car just can't seem to get the power to the ground.
After looking at some of my log files I noticed that my rpms jump rapidly to about 2600-2800 off the line, then they increase steadily after that. So I started thinking, hmmm I don't see how this stalls to 3600 like it is supposed to. The next thing I did was commanded the transmission to stay in 3rd, I hit it from a stop, and from a 15 roll. From a stop the rpms jumped to 2650ish, from the roll they jumped to 2900ish. This again indicates to me that my stall is more like a 3000 or less.
So I PMd the guy I bought it from and he's baffled, he said that he had the converter custom stalled by PI to 3600 on his setup. So I figure lets compare setups:
Me: 3.23 gears, 1.87 60', 12.57 @ 109.7, 2700 ft DA
Him: 3.23 gears, 1.70 60', 12.59 @ 109-110, 5000 ft DA
So power-wise we are almost the exact same, gearing we are the same, and this was with the same converter. But how the heck does he run almost 2 tenths faster in the 60'??
Is there something else that could be effecting this? Fluid is at the top of the fill line when hot. The transmission seems to shift great, the fluid is clean and not burnt.
I mean I have no problem trying another converter but if I put a 4000 stall in it and it stalls to 3400 I'm not gonna be happy. Is there something I am doing wrong here? Can the converter lose stall as it gets older?

If the converter has a sprague that is slipping the stall will go down and drastically kill your 60'.How long ago was it freshened?Give me a call and I can explain further.
Thanks,
Greg
Thanks,
Greg

I've tried launching off idle, I've tried stalling it to 1200, 1500, 1700, 2000, and until its trying to pull thru around 2200. I get the gas pedal to the floor as fast as I possibly can. Tires don't spin, engine doesn't bog, here are some pics of my car launching:
Those are on MT Drag Radials, you can see the tire wrinkle and the front end lift. The car is dead hooking, obviously no tire spin. Even after the launch and before the 60' my logs show no tire spin at all.
Watch the first pass I made here (this is before the cam but with this converter and FWIW it pulled the same 60' times before the cam):
It launches but then you just hear it have a difficult time building rpms.

You know I have been looking at this tonight and decided the same thing... I have a wideband just need to install it. I was looking at a friends logs running similar times with a 3600 stall. His rpms jump to about 3000-3200 off the line, but he has 3.91 gears to my 3.23s. I think before I go too nuts about this I need to get 3.73s and make sure its properly tuned. Maybe I am just not looking at it right by expecting to see the rpms jump to 3600.

Well from only going with how it sounded IN THE VIDEO...it sounds like theres a slight hesitation which in my opinion is coming from...
1. a slipping tranny or just slow shifts due to not having a shift kit which in itself is still slipping.
or...
2. Ur shift points are in akward places for ur gears....hence when u shift it leaves u in a dead spot for a split second till the car can recover and make it back into the power band....Gears should fix that issue.

Thanks guys, I have noticed that a bit more and I will see what it does once its properly tuned. I don't have to be the fastest with a particular setup, but I sure as heck am not going to be the slowest
