would a bad rearend hurt an a4?

Default would a bad rearend hurt an a4?
i was wondering if riding around with a bad rearend would put any strain on my transmission?

Not strain but if it breaks or locks up it can severely damage the trans yes

ouch...ok next question if it sounds kinda like a tapping noise and get quicker the faster i go. how long you think before it breaks...

Honestly see if you could bum rides, when my rear blew it did hurt the trans. maybe if you got the funds, try to find a cheap beater.
