first gear seems a little harsh..
hey guys, i got a 99 a4 ss. everything is stock except a lid, smooth bellow, portedtb, and lm2 catback.. well the problem is the car seems like it wants to stay in 1st too long when slowly driving the car(like driving down my street and in parking lots, etc.), normal driving its just fine, but when i drive slow around 8-10 mph and let off the gas it just hangs up around 1400 rpm and stays there when it seems like it would shift or go to neutral... and when it does this and it finally shifts to second it seems hard and doesn't sounds like its good for the tranny.. any you guys know what the problem might be? o and the car only has 57K miles on it and changed the transmission fluid about 9 months ago, could it simply be changing the fluids again? its not a horrible problems just one of those things that bothers me.. thanks in advance

Same here.Been told that this is fairly normal and 8-10mph isn't quite fast enough for the computer to tell the tranny to shift to 2nd under light throttle. Also the 1-2 shift is generally more harsh in any driving condition on these cars, especially when the tranny is cold.I don't think you have anything to worry about if the tranny has been maintained.
In my car around a quarter throttle at operating temp, I experience:
1-2 shift= pretty harsh
2-3 shift= less harsh
3-4 shift= smooth,or barely feel it
converter lockup= no feel at all

I have the same issue on mine. Worried the crap outta me until a friend of mine who works on transmissions for a living told me it was really normal for Camaros/Firebirds. Oh well, my new trans is going in this winter so it'll be gone
