Default the right way to use a stall convertor

I have a 3400 stall convertor. When i launch it, it will hold around 3200 rpms with out doing a burn out, anything higher will result in burning out. So my question is, at the dragstrip should i launch at 3200 rpms? or how exactly (correctly) are you supposed to use a stall for good times at the drag strip.

There is no right answer. Trial and error on what makes you car faster and consistent. Some converters like to be brought up to the stall on the break, some converter like to be launched at idle and flashed. Some like it somewhere in between. Suspension also plays a role, meaning the converter might like to be launched at a higher RPM, but you spin so you need to lower the launch RPM. Just need some TnT to figure it out.

I agree with Circle-D. I tried all different methods with my Yank ST3500 until I finally found the right combination of tire pressure and launch technique. I'll bring it up to about 1500 rpm on the foot brake and then on the last yellow I'll hammer down. Good for a low 1.6 60ft nearly every time.

The stall should "flash" to the stall # quickly to provide the maximum acceleration. So a 3,200 stall should be launched at 1,500 - 1,800rpm..try it out.

try it both ways. however, if you break the tires loose then i have a feeling you will be needing some tires that stick better for you to know how your car wants to be launched.

def flash the converter. launches alot harder then launching from 3200. I use to have a 3200 stall and i think my car would only footbreak to like 2500 or so before the tires would start to turn.

I've always had my best 60-fts when launched at idle (Vig 3200). This is over 20 passes.

Every car is different you just have to play and see. IM still trying to find out the best launch process myself the best 60 ft I have is a 1.89. Bolt-ons, full bmr out back 3500 vig. drad radials 18 psi. Seems like every time I go to the track, the track is slick.

ya well i posted a thread in the 12 second section titled "what did i do wrong"...i pulled a 1.8 60 foot and ran 12.8!!!! @ 105...that is garbage. Originally i ran 12.9 at 110 before stall and tranny. so i lost 5 mph somewhere and have no idea whats going on...launched at 1500 by the way,

Launching off idle will get you the best 60 foot but a lousy reaction time if your racing heads up on a .4oo pro tree. I got the most consistent results bringing the converter up to around 2k before launching. Tried to stall it up as high as I could and got good results but pushed through the brakes and redlighted a couple times and gave up on that method. this was with a 4600 stall.

Flashing it will hit the tires the hardest resulting in the best 60' if you can hook it. Stalling it up will hit it softer the higher you go but should help with traction.
