Question Car moves in neutral when revved....wtf??

Guys & Gals,

Here is another classic story of a 4l60e going bad, I just want to know how bad it is. Tranny is on its way out, here are some symptoms:

When in drive, its hesitant to take off in first gear. Starts off in 2nd, changes its mind and goes back to first. Only does this in Drive, if I select first gear manually, no problems.

And the other issue is when I have my car in Neutral, and give it a quick stab to say 4k RPM, the car lurks forward about 3-6"....Never done this before.

How bad is it? Income tax season is upon us, so should I fix it or should it get replaced?

Appreciate all the help

Well some forward tug on a rev is normal as the is residual friction even with sets that are no applied,
The jumping from 1-2-1 etc sounds like a sensor or tuning issue

I misread, I though the car would move forward in neutral as if the forward frictions were welded stuck. A slight creep or rocking in neutral or in park on a rev or start up is normal.

My car does the same thing sometimes, and my tranny still feels strong. It's got 71k on the clock, so i feel like it's probably normal, of course I have been wrong before.

The starting out in second gear could be a slightly cracked plastic 1-2 accumulator piston. If this is the case what happens is pressure on one side of the accumulator piston gets into the 2nd gear accumulator oil circuit when it should not be there. Basically applying the band even though both shift solenoids are energized. Might be something to take a look at if in fact you still have a plastic 1-2 accumulator piston. Vince
