Default lots of play in my rear shaft on a 4L60e

put in a new TA mount tonight and also replaced my tailshaft seal. while i was doing this i noticed that the shaft u slide the driveshaft over has quite a bit of play in it from side to side and up and down, is this normal of could something be wore out inside?...

I've never noticed it before until now, just wanted to make sure it was ok or something i needed to get checked out.

thanks

definitely needs to be checked out. you say you replaced the rear seal so iam assuming it was leaking. im sure the loose shaft is what made the seal go bad. if it gets worse it could crack the tail housing of the trans.

it wasn't leaking really, just kinda wet around it so i went ahead and replaced it while I was there...after I put the driveshaft back into the tranny I couldn't move it no matter how hard I tried so I'm not sure what the deal is...I need one of the big tranny shops to chime in here..

oh and when i say PLAY...it was probably about 1/16-1/8in ...I just thought I could wiggle it too much

The shaft would have considerable play without the yoke in. the shaft is supported via the yoke being on it with the bushing in the tail housing supporting it. So likley what you feel is normal.
