Question what are the 4L80 ears?

okay so in the 4L80 conversion sticky it says to cut these now is it the one by itself or is it the matching ones on both sides with the bolt patterns?

The one big ear on the drivers side was for a shifter cable mount in a lot of truck and van applications.

thanks for the replies, now does someone have one that's cut? I would need to know how far to cut this bad boy so I don't cut too much or too little.

okay well I guess I will hack away at it and post some pics. I will try to post pics as the conversion develops for other non-mechanically inclined people like myself

You are going to need to notch the crossbrace in the tunnel for the connector.

please don't say do a search and not post atleast a link. Too many people post threads with 4l80 in them and I don't have time to just sit and search through 10 pages of them to find the one you are talking about. Not being a butthead its just the search never really helps me much on the specifics I look for.

Here is the link for the ears.....https://ls1tech.com/forums/9650776-post86.html

This is for notching the floor crossmember (if you go with automatic function instead of FMVB) You may need to notch the other side for the cooler line (if it is a 99+ tranny) https://ls1tech.com/forums/9695628-post88.html

wow this stuff needs to be included in the 4L80 swap sticky. Okay here is another question, very simple the dust cover is what protects the torque converter from the street and elements so it's not exposed, right? Couldn't you use the 4L60 dust cover? Why is it optional or most people don't run one?

I leave mine cover off so air can help cool the converter, But that just me. And far as protecting the converter if there some thing in the road you will bust the oil pan first. Its below the tranny.

I DDed my 67 for quite a while with no dust cover....I had no issues. Like RandyWS6 said, the engine oil pan is lower than the transmission.

okay so I found out that I was lied to about this tranny. I was told that it was out of a 02 HD but am finding out that it's a older style (without the 12 o'clock bellhousing hole). Should I get rid of it or keep it? What is the difference in strength? I am thinking that it is a '94 model but not sure.
