Default 2800 SLP Torque Converter - $50 = Worth It?

Well... I plan on doing a LE3 package to my '95 Z LT1 A4 within the next year... but right now I basically have LCAs, relocation brackets, subframes, panhard bar, strut tower brace, and a catback system. A friend of mine has his old SLP 2800 stall converter for sale, and he only wants $50.00 for it. He has had it out of the car for a while because he went with a 3200 Vigilante. Is it worth it? I wanted to get a higher stall eventually; will a 2800 stall be worth installing in my car? Also, will I have to get my PCM retuned? I am not going to be getting any head work do for a while due to money - Any opinions will help!

That depends on how much you will pay for the install.
DIY on the driveway, yeah, why not. It will be an
improvement (presuming it's not worn out, and I think
with the big diameter and stockish clutch it won't.
But if you're looking at $500 in shop rates then the
money saved, might not be so important. A 2800 stall
is probably appropriate for a non-screamer LT1. Make
sure about swappability LS1-LT1 though, dunno about
that.

That converter won't work in your car if it came out of an LS1 car. Someone correct me if im wrong, but im pretty sure it wont.

The LS1 and LT1 are different converters. They will not interchange. Unless it is out of an LS1 corvette, they still used the older LT1 style converters. The price is right, but like Jimmy said. It might not be worth it when considering the whole picture.

If you wanted to go with something better, a yank, edge, or something like the circle d converter would be a better option with around 3200-3600 stall even if you have boltons...it will feel slower around the street, but wot will be crazy...i have a small cam, full boltons, and a 3400 stall converter....in an lt1

^Agreed. You can find a Yank SS3600 on here pretty cheap nowadays. Yank it and get off quicker

Well... an update for everyone. Looks like I got a good deal. The stall converter was clean and runs fine according to my friend who has the car. I am going to pick up the car this afternoon from installation. I wonder how much of a difference it will make. Also, my PCM that I currently have in the car is tuned for a 2800 stall, so no worries there

IMHO, a 2800 converter isn't even worth putting in. Go 3500+ or just leave the stocker in there.

Well... all I know is I cannot hook up at all now. I flashed the stall up to about 2300 and took off. I spun for about 100 feet. I really need some DRs! Need some Nitto 555Rs or something.

I think the 2800 was worth it for only $50.00 and installation. Only cost me a total of $250 w/ parts and installation.
