4,500-4,800 Stall, Too Much???

Default 4,500-4,800 Stall, Too Much???

I'm getting ready to go from a M6 to a T400 transbrake and the guy that will be building my tranny says I need to go with a 45-4800 stall which seems awfully big to me. He also says which I don't understand that the stall is also variable, that you can buy a 4,800 stall for instance but if your engine isn't putting out enough torque then it will only be a 4,000 stall. He says he is running a 6,500 Hughes stall on his 565ci big block.

At 524/501rw do you guys think a 45-4800 is ok and what mfr for the converter, I guess 9" for sure. Also what SFI flex plate will bolt up correctly?

sounds about right to me, if not alittle tight. But if you ever plan on spraying it, then your going to want something tighter. You probably going to need the tci flexplate for the old school small bolt pattern converters.

4500-6000 is quite normal for a race setup. It is all relative on how high you spin the motor, gearing, tire size and trans selection and a few other factors. A 9" sounds about right for a 4500-4800 stall. Do you have a dyno sheet showing the torque curve?

This season I'm using a Ultimate Converter Concepts 5200 stall with a TH350 4.10 gear 28" radial shifting at 7200.
