Default 3600 converter on stock tranny and rear end..

as much as i hate asking questions like this i have to.... the info is always scattered on here and everyone has diff. goals and ways thay treat/drive their cars..that being said ....

the car: 2001 z28 a4, lt's, lid, ptb, nitto 555r's. 76k on it. not my dd, does not see the track and will not most likely. street only.few races here and there.not much.

i've decided to go with a 3600 converter for now. will it kill my trans before i hit 100k?? or sooner???

what about my rear diff??? should i take my nittos off and go with a diff tire??

i plan on adding a tranny cooler.

im on a budget so i dont have the means to rebuilt a trans or get a better rear end.

looking to install a cam (224) within a yr or soafter i finally install my tc.

i know that no one knows exactly when anything will break, but for those of you who have been running a 3600 tc on stock tranny and rear, might be able to help out.

thanks ahead of time.

just remember it's heat and poor maintenance that kills auto trannys! I have had my 4K yank stall for over a year and a half in a DD but it is accompanied by a big tranny cooler! you can either do one big tranny cooler or two smaller ones! other then that ask the tranny and stall pros on this site!

if your tranny is working fine, then you should be okay. but there is no guarantee in that. i was in the same boat. i pm a bunch of cammed/stalled stock tranny guys to see how long theres lasted. some guys trannys take a dump leaving the shop after getting tuned. it is pretty much hit or miss.

what i would suggest, is just to save up the money to get a solid tranny built by our sponsors like FLT, or Performabuilt with a good converter all done at the same time.

lol.. my sams club tranny is one of a kind..

but for a properly built 4L60E tranny its atleast $2200 bucks id say. definitely get ahold of the sponsors that know these trannies inside and out. dont go cheap on the tranny or converter as it will end up costing you alot in the long run.

I have a tr224, 3200 edge, bolt ons, and Nitto 555rs and I pretty much give my car a beating everytime i drive it. So far the rear end and tranny are doing wonderful. If i really hammer on the Nittos they will light up like Xmas. Its very difficult to get them to dead hook but they are worlds better then a full non-DR street tire. Autos dont break **** like M6s so dont sweat it.

Ditto on whaty omega said. the right foot connected to the go switch with lots of power kills transmissions. No really proper maintenance and how you drive will determine how well the transmission will live. A cooler is always a good bet as heat is the #1 killer of units. The higher the str the more heat the converter will make as well. look for something in the 36-3800 range with an str of between 1.8 and 2.2. this will help keep heat down as the lower the str the more efficient the converter becomes.

My advice would be to check out ls1speed.com and look into a tranny and tc combo. We have the same car, similar mods, that's what I would do.
