Default Burnout - Possible Stall Question

i have the slightest clue on what to search for in this particular case. i've driven an SRT4 for 3 years and now drive an STi.

edit: i'm doing the following in a 1998 A4 WS6.

that being said in my 29 years of life i have never locked up the front brakes to do a burnout. last week i got the nerve to do it (brand new tires @ 1500 miles ago - 285/40/17 Nitto 555's).

i pushed the brake in and stomped on the throttle. i was preparing myself to get the car up to speed and then hold it somewhere @ 55mph. didn't happen.

car stayed @ 2000rpm and spun the tire @ 30mph or so, HAHA !!! car never shifted gears until i let off the brake. when i let off the break the car got sideways and red lined. i let off the throttle after it redlined.

from what i understand the car is pretty much bone stock with an MTI Lid and Flowmaster muffler. i think the stock gearing back there is 3.23's, correct !?!?

is this a stall question or a gear question or what !?!? is this normal for the car to not shift gears while doing a burnout !?!?

to be honest with you, it was quite emberassing, HAHA !!! what i thought would take @ 10 seconds ended up taking @ 40 seconds

My car shifts when i do burnouts. I also use my TCI Line Lock. It shifts but keeps rippen em'. I dont think ive ever hit the limiter on a burnout though. And depending on year you may have 2.73's. Check your RPO door codes. GU5 is 3.23's. If its different it has 2.73's. As A4's only came with the two options.

the auto's have something called torque management, witch probably is not helping you with your burnouts.

jeeez, i read my first post and it appears i must have deleted the part that says i have a 1998 A4 WS6. sorry about that guys.

but yeah, that "tq managment" or whatever is probably what it is. i'll take a look at the RPO code to make sure which gears i got.

damn car was just "cruising along". took @ 15 seconds for it to actually start kicking up blue smoke. stayed on the throttle for another 8-10 seconds and then i let off the brake.

i got it out of my system and won't ever do it again, i just wanted to know if it was normal. i've seen plenty of burnout vids where guys are just DOIN IT, smoke billowing within seconds and just making a mess of their tires, HAHA !!!!

mine wasn't so cool

you have 323s..

the car wasnt in first gear if you were at 30 and 2k rpms...

when you do a burn out in an a4.... start off with the shifter in 1st.. give it quite a bit of gas (4k rpms or so) then back down some.. get them spinning good and then when your ready give it some more gas and shift into second... repeat as much as necessary...

try it one more time.. that way, if need be for some reason.. you can do one if you need to... you cant own a muscle car and not know how to do a burnout.....

vid next time!

well, i'm emberassed to post the vid cuz the burnout was garbage, HAHA !!!

i also forgot to mention that when i was in the middle of said burnout i tried dropping the car down all the way to first to see what it would do. nothing

i don't want to find out my car is only making 200whp and can't spin some brand new 285/40 Nitto's LMFAO !!! that would realy suck.

brb, uploading the terrible burnout video

actually, i just watched my video again. if you listen VERY CLOSELY you can hear me downshift all the way to 1st gear @ :07 seconds of the video - just before i stomp on the throttle.

still, i figured the car was gonna shoot up in RPMS, but it never did

<-------- possible fail !?!?

lol

maybe you had to much brake? I was able to manage a pretty good burnout(kind of like you described you thought it would be like). this was in a 93 v6 auto firebird with 275's. it actually surprised me quite a bit. It layed a nice mark almost all the way across a decent sized street.

yes, very possible.. all you need once they start spinning is about 1/2 to 1/4 brake.. JUST enough to keep the car from rolling..

I have 2.73s and I put it in first gear for the burnout; redline in first gear for me comes at 55 mph so I really don't need to shift to second.
I don't press the pedal very hard, just enough to keep the car from moving forward like previously said. I got a, SLP linelock for Christmas but, being the procrastinator that I am, it's sitting in the garage.

ok, so if i push the break in "too much" that means the car won't shift outta gear !?!? i dropped it all the way down to first when i got on it.

i'm still a bit confused.

if you have too much brake theres too much friction on the rear tires and it wont spin as freely as it should and it wont have enough power to shift out of first. my bone stock z28 would spin them sitting still through second.

MY GOD YOU DO NEED HELP!!!!!!!!

hahahhaa, im totally just kidding man...

your ONE and ONLY problem... MORE GAS!!!!! i saw you said you were sitting at 2k rpms, not nearly enough.. also it not shifting is because it didnt need to becuase you didnt give it enough gas to need to...
you wanna kinda play with the gas... give it a good smash to start them spinning.. then easy off a little, something like 2500 rpms.. then sit for a second, move up to 3500rpms, then back down a little, back up.. shift up to second... keep the rpms around 2500-3000... if you want more smoke, keep it in second and raise the rpms to aound 4k...

honestly, thats your only problen.. you can hear in the vid you didnt give it anyore gas.. thats why it sucked..

listen to the camaro in this clip, he plays with it.. like i was saying, then when he gets the smoke rolling he keeps it at a point he wants... (he has more done than you so it makes more smoke quicker, but you get the point..)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fmVaqWjo0I

ill give you a few more where you can hear them playing with the throttle and giving it more for more smoke..
