Default Trans never starts off in 1st unless I manually start in 1

Is this normal? I would think it should start in 1. The trans has been rebuilt and it has a shift kit. It's been so long since the car drove that I can't remember how it sed to be.

Yes it should start in 1st. What shift kit do you have ? are you sure first is being commanded?

Trans Go. How do I know if it's being commanded? Is it through the PCM that it gets called for?

yes through the pcm you should be able to see it in na scanner
