Default Shimming Coverter?

I know this issue has come up before but it's better to be safe than sorry. I'm installing a ss4000 with Hughes flexplate and I need to shim it for sure. The gap between the two is .29 of an inch and the shims are only .060 so I would need two to get the gap down to the acceptable max of .180 of an inch. Can I use two shims? If I do use two shims should I get longer ARP bolts? The LS1 ARP bolts for the 60e are short so they would only go into the converter pads about 3/16 of an inch which doesn't seem to be enough.

I would suggest a 1/8" shim. I prefer that over 2 shims, but it will work either way. You will also need longer bolts, they seem a little short.

Do you think I can find 1/8th inch shims in a hardware store or do I need to order them? Thanks for your help.

good luck finding .125 thick washers in a hardware store. Call the converter company and ask them to send you some. Also, the ones in the hardware store arent exact in size, you need to measure each one.

Edit: I think Summit sells ARP .120 washers

You have to shim the converter if there is too big of a gap between the flexplate and converter.
