Default Shift lever position

What position should the lever that is on the transmission, which connects to the linkage, be in for the trans to be in park? I would assume it would be all the way forward? The transmission is a 96 4L60E.

so your talking about the actual linkage that sticks out the side of the transmission?

turn it counter clockwise until it stops(torwads the front of the car). that will be "Park"
