Default Poll: stock 4l60, can it take a TC?

Okay,
So I know everyone has their own opinion on mods, and every car is different, but I'd like to get the general concensus.
Can I add a stall to my stock 4l60 without it taking out my tranny?

Please give additional info about your setup.

I should add I'm more into roll racing, and not really into drag racing from a dig.

It just depends on how you drive your car daily. Mine only lasted about 5000 miles on my 3200. I would recommend saving your money and buying a built tranny.

You'll get plenty of responses. Just get a big cooler and save for a tranny.

Basically, it'll just speed up the process

Last year I pretty much lost second on my low mileage Z (26k). I take it easy on the street (usually). But I have about 30 track passes on it. I'm putting in a Procharger, so it was going to have to get built anyways.

i was fortunate to have my stock tranny last long enough to get a cam + 3200 stall in it. but i would seriously save the money the get a built tranny and stall done at the same time.. look into the sponsors we have like performabuilt and FLT.

that why i always tell people to wait to get a stall and do it when you get a beefed up tranny. that way your not wasting time getting a stall, then waiting to save up $2,000 bucks for a built tranny. get it done all at once.

yes i agree with that completely. but what if your tranny lasts another 20k miles with the stall. its a huge waste of money to jump the gun on a 2.5k tranny to me.

Mine lasted about a month. It may or may not last. You can either kick yourself in the *** for spending a little over $2,000 for a built transmission and converter or kick yourself in the *** because your stock one lasted a while.

I'd go ahead and save for a built transmission.

Stock tranny here with a shift kit, B&M cooler, and a Yank SS3600 converter. Times in sig. Why spend the money before you have too?

H/C car... 100K+ miles..

installed it at 100k... took it out at 116k... plenty of track passes... drove it HARD as a DD..

4000 VIG (was more like a 4400-4600 though)...

transmission never even thought about having a problem..

A big cooler will solve most heat issues, which appears to kill these tranny's.

Factory stock tranny with 94K miles. 3600, shift kit and tranny cooler has been on it for about 15K miles, plenty of races, no problems at all.
