Ok, after reading this several times and bringing in a team of experts I think I understand what you're asking. You should be able to move the car in any gear except park. Do you mean while the engine is running or not running? Did you rebuild the trans or just install a shift kit?

Please use periods.

WOW.
Unhook a trans cooler line and start the engine. Check that fluid sprays out of the line.
I am assumimg you did put fliud back in?

I have to ask, did you turn the ignition key all the way, so that the starter engaged and actually started the motor? J/K But I figured it was fair payback for reading and trying to understand your question.

Low fluid (converter eats a lot) is one possibility.

Detent cable has a snap adjuster. Leave that snap loose and
the cable will just "trombone" without changing the detent
lever position.

Electrical harness connector must be clean and tight.

Possibly didn't have the converter seated into the front pump when the motor was reinstalled. You need to know if you have pressure. Use a gauge or disconnect the cooler lines and add hoses to the end of the lines to a bucket. When running should have flow in the lines and roughly 65 psi at the pressure port on the drivers side right above the linkage connection. Best of Luck
Sounds like you may need some.

Check your fluid and connections again. Put your car in gear not running and see if you can even manually move the car..if its locked in place then you simply put the wrong legnth bolt int the valvebody when putting in the shift kit. If this is the case, the longer bolt in the center portion of the vb will stick up through your case and and lock the sunshell in place . Ive done this unfortunately more than once in the past..and once when i put a shift kit in. Hope ya figure it out.

Check your linkage. make sure you hooked it up to the oil pan right. I lost a bolt once and couldnt get it to move. Give it a try never know.
