Talking No drive in all ranges?

Rebuilt my 4l60e, stabbed it at about 25 and lost all drive ranges including reverse, pulled it out and apart and found it full of metal. Every thing seems to be intact, no broken sunshell or shaft. Gotta be the converter right?

Converter or the pump is broken. It is also possible that what ever is creating the metal has plugged up the filter and caused a no movement condition. Either way with a pan full of metal the whole transmission needs to be fully disassembled and cleaned including the converter. Vince

Just pulled the pump apart, nothing broken, its a little worn, where would all the metal come from?

If it is fine aluminum I would say it can only come out of a converter or a pump. Pictures of the pan and the pump might help. Take the converter and dump some oil out of it to see if you see a silver river! Might help you narrow it down. Vince

I would say the metal is not coming from the pump. From the looks of the pan the converter would be my guess. How does the rest of the trans look? What type of failure did you have before this most recent one? How do the current bushings look? Look over everything. Let us know what you come up with. Vince

Originaly the plastic accumulator pistons broke. I replaced them with alluminum ones. It was okay for about 2 years and then the it started slipping. I pulled it and found that there was pieces of the plastic pistons hanging the valves and the 3/4 clutches were burned. I just opened the input housing and the 3/4 clutches are starting to burn. WTF
