Default 6L80E guys i have some questions for ya

correct me if im wrong but i believe the 2010 SS camaro in automatic comes with the 6L80E transmisson, now i have recently got married and my wife wants one and she only wants the automatic.....

the mods i will do is longtube headers and full exhaust, and procharger..... now what RWHP do you guys think that will put the car at??? and more importantly HOW MUCH HP CAN THIS TRANNY TAKE??? i know in my 02' ss the 4L60E was weak and had to be built..... can the 6l80e take the additional hp of a procharger??? how much will it hold up to???

thanks for any help

The 6l80 looks much better than the 60e, although I don't have any real world experience with them, as they haven't been out too long. The torque rating is already higher than the 60e, hints the 6l80.

Well stock it's situated for around 430. I would just generally assume(an uneducated guess)that it could probably hold up to around 550. 80 series are pretty reliable from what I hear, and the transmission is built to "at least" hold that 430. Have you looked up the transmissions possible in the new Vette? If this is one of them I would definitely say 550. It's a 6 speed automatic, which from what I hear is one of the sturdiest transmissions you can get stock. Good luck.

Haven't had any trouble with my 6L80E. I'm pushing +420RWHP and plan on adding a Maggie in the near future. As long as you keep some TM in your tune you should be okay.

Livernois had a G8 GT making well over 500rwhp for a long time. Haddad Motorsports out in CA has a shop car that was making over 600whp with a TVS1900 for quite some time (although I think he said he de-tuned it and it's making 530 rwhp currently)with 30,000+ miles on it. I asked the owner how hard he has driven it. His reply was "well, over the 30,000 miles...I've averaged just below 10mpg...if that tells you anything". Transmission is still holding up great from what he said. 6L80E's appear to be pretty stout. I have a TVS1900 on my car and it's holding that power fine.

723WHP as been achieved through the stock trans.
Not sure if intense received a factory freak, though.

It's not about "achieving" a certain power level. It's about how long it
will live at that power level.

Really... that's the case with all modifications.
In the end, the point is that it's been done, but the owner of the car should use discretion as it's still new territory.

I doubt with bolt ons, cam and tune you will brake or hurt a 6l80 in a light car. These trans are used behind the L92's in the truck since 07.

The ones in the trucks are rated 469 bhp and 439 lb-ft with a Maximum gearbox torque:
664 lb-ft

They only problem is tuning and removing to much TM.

We already know that this trans won't live with 650rwhp when being run hard.
