Default Help please on 4l60E Transmission

When going down the road at 45 mph the transmission disengaged and the engine freewheels all while the speedometer went to zero.
Later, from a standing start it was slow to shift and eventually acted like transmission was slipping, but disengaged and speedometer went back to zero. Finally had to manually shift into low gear to get where I was going but speedometer still did not work.
Transmission is a 4L60E from a 1996 Caprice
Computer is an original from a 2000 Camaro
Speedometer is electronic from Classic Instruments and uses an electronic transmission signal converter box.

Anyone have had this happen before, or know of a good starting point to find the problem.

Thank you.

Odd the speedo should not go to zero unless the output shaft.driveshafe stops turning. But having to place in manual low to go would definatley indicate a transmission problem. I would address the trans issue first then see where i was with speedo
