Default Thinking about switching from 3200 vig to ss 4000..

it has been on my mind for quite some time now. i have had a vigilante in my f-body's since 96 and they have always been dependable on the strip as well as the street. (My 93 LT1 2800 vig /sold )

but, it seems to me over the years ,the yanks has gotten better with the quality and definitely 60ft like a ***** .

how many of you switched from a 3200 Vig to a SS 4000 Yank and what improvements did you see in your 1/4 ,60ft's, mph, and street driveabilty ?

I don't have a direct comparison. I went from a Vig 3800 to the SS4000. BIG difference just between those two. To back track, I went from the old school Yank ST3500 to the Vig 3800 & it felt the same at the Yank 3500. My trans blew with the Vig 3800 but I wanted more stall because I thought I could squeeze more 60' out of it. I don't exactly remember the 60' difference but it did make a difference. My 98 isn't daily driven anymore(did with this converter for about a year) but It is not that bad around town & hwy driving. I think the SS4000 is the most popular converter. My best 60' so far is a 1.56..The Vig 3800 couldn't even touch that. I am guessing high 1.6's to 1.7's with the Vig. I warn you now, you better have some suspenion work done for this converter. It hits like a ****. LOL

worth the switch my guess would be about .15-.2 tenths...hit hard as hell

turn around should only be like $250-$300 too once you sell the vig

I know a guy who just made almost this exact switch. He told me that he gained a tenth or slightly more and it came from the reduction in 60 ft time.

ive tossed around the same idea. my vig 3200 drives very much like stock. but it never will see the track so i dont know if its worth the money and effort to swap out a converter.

How about an FTI 4000. Built a little different than the yank and you will see incredible results. Ask on this forum about our converters.

Good topic! I have a similar set-up with H/C Ls1, 3200 vig., S-60 with 3:73's. I run at about 12.3 / 109 mph with a 1.779 60'. The car is full weight and is a weekend warrior.

The Super Stock 4000 was recommended by Yank ( Dave ? ).

My goal is to get into the 11's. Does a switch to this converter sound feasible to attain my goals also.

I keep reading that this convertor hits hard from a stop?, but how is its pull on the top end at the track and for roll racing when that occurs.

There have also been good things said on this forum about the PT4400. How would that converter fit into the mix to attain the same goal . ( to loose or other comprimises.

Thanks guys for your opinions!

I use a SS4000 now, not sure who honestly has the better converter on here, but i don't think you can go wrong with some sponsors on here. More than happy with my new yank converter.

I am on stock suspension, 315 nitto 555R's and I can't find traction yet with this converter.

I'm curious how it would do with a sticky tire, since i am practically full bolt-ons.

1.56 60' with the SS4000 with 350 rwhp. That's how hard it hits If you look in the timeslip section, I have better 60's than some 10 second cars, plus I have the lowest MPH for just about any 11 second car(111.4). The key for me is the 60' & this SS4000 is great. If the track is crap, then I can't hook. That's the only problem I see with it. I like to bracket race & might have to go to a smaller stall to be more consistent.

Ive had all three of these converters, vig 3200, ss4000, pt4400. SS4000 was the best down low, pt4400 is better up top, vig3200 doesnt even compare to the other 2 in any aspect.
