Default :read: Just had trans rebuilt :read:

Heres a little history, had trans rebuilt in same case a couple times and each time it would only make it about 20 miles and then after that it would act like you were trying to take off in high gear. so we came to the conclusion that the case may be cracked somewhere that couldnt be noticed and we were losing fluid pressure ( i dont know alot about transmissions btw). so i had the trans rebuilt into a different case and now after putting the trans back in the truck ( K1500) i only have reverse, if you put it into drive it will act like it barely wants to move and you have to rev the crap out of it to get it to even do that....i know about putting the torque converter in all that way (that was the first thing the shop that rebuilt it asked)...im completley stumped so any input would be GREAT. thanks in advance....

Well with the first one it sounds like you were going into limp mode which will cause starts in 3rd gear.
QUESTIONS?
1-Did you scan for code when this happened?
2-Is the converter stock?

On the second one sounds like somethings mechanically wrong

Limp mode is generally and electrical fault . Open or shorted wiring or solenoid

ok so are you saying that the initial trans problem before swapping everything over to a different case could have just been and electrical problem? sorry if i sound a little slow here i just dont know alot about transmissions.. and if thats the case then with the first trans that we kept rebuilding(3 times) the exact thing would happen, wouldnt make it 20 miles without messing up...would this explain why when it was pulled apart that nothing appeared to be wrong with the internals (no burnt clutchs or metals)

Yes it would explain all . You never really had a trans problem at all but actually and electrical problem. Now however with the latest trans it does appear you do have a trans problem

wow..thats pretty shitty...lmao that was an expensive ordeal just to get worse of a problem...now heres the next question...after i get the trans back and put back in if it does this limp mode thing you are talking about, where should i start looking for problems...also let me add that the wiring harness on this truck is a complete hack job...used to be a tx game warden truck and had alot of **** tied into the harness that was removed before i got the truck..

and again because im slow, just to re cap.

even if the truck drives completley fine for a couple miles, shifts though all the gears/ it could still be an electrical prob?. i would think that if it was an electrical problem that it would be a constant problem?

CONDITION:

--------- Some 1993 vehicles equipped with the HYDRA-MATIC 4L60-E transmission may blow an ignition fuse which forces the transmission to default into 3rd gear starts when in D4. Possible diagnostic trouble codes (DTC's) 66, 67, 81, and 82 may exist.

CAUSE: (Figure 1) ----- The HYDRA-MATIC 4L60-E transmission built before October 01, 1992 (Julian Date 275) may have a wiring harness that has a wire connector that may short to the valve body.

Could have been a bad solenoid or and open in the wiring lots of possibilities, First thing is get a working trans back in there and go from there .

This is a fine example of exactly why I just want to purchase a new transmission when the time comes. Good luck fixing your problem man.

I know the feeling. I had a 95 truck and it was doing the same thing and ended up being a short in one of the wires in the tranny harness..think it was a pink one..was a real pita to figure out.Good luck man

well heres an update after pulling the tranny out and watching the guy go through it again and getting the truck put back together.
pulled it out and replaced all the the electronic components inside the transmission, put the truck back together and guess what...STILL doing the same thing. we hooked the truck up to the scanner before and after pulling it back out and the scanner (not the cheap little code reader from auto zone) said it was the 2-3 shift solenoid...well like i said it still through the same code even after i replaced everything electrical inside the trans...
i started looking through the wiring harness and found a couple places where it had been cut a saudered back together and even in some places just wires cut and stripped then twisted back together ...couldnt believe it ...so went ahead and yanked the under dash and engine wiring harness out and it was a pretty big mess....now here is the question, could the wiring be causing this or is it the computer?...ahhhh
