Default Im sure torque converter questions get old

2000 4L60e...

I have read the stickies and they are real good minus the fact there is no pictures in there.

I am putting togeather my first trans/bellhousing/torque converter togeather..

everything went great, all my measurements are good.. the only problem I have and its a big one...

I cannont figure out how the hell to bolt the 3 torque converter bolts to the flex plate, can anyone offer some good advice here or a couple pics? It would be greatly appreciated

Take the starter off and access them from that location.
I use a wobble extension at the flexplate end and enough 1/2" extensions to end up at the sway bar.
BTW the starter is hung up with a tie strap.

Thank you sir. It relly looks like you have way more room than my setup, I think I may have been given the wrong bellhousing... there are like 3 or 4 bolts that did not line up, so I dont know if that is part of the problem, thanks for the pictures.. I'll take a look againg tonight, and see if I can get them in.

Does it have a removeable bellhousing?
You should be bolting an LS1 4L60E up to an LS1 with 8 bolts. A non LS1 4L60E will bolt up with 5 bolts. But the bigger problem is the torque converter crank pilot will be too short and you'll need a spacer.

If you reply back you might want to be very specific, like where did the trans come from, etc.

It does have a removeable bellhousing.

The 4L60e that I have is a 2000, but it is the 4x4 4L60e, I am putting an LS1 in a jeep wrangler, thats why i needed the 4x4 version of the transmission.

So yes, it would be a non-LS1 4L60e... When I purchased the bell housing I asked for an LS1 4L60e bellhousing, I do not think that is what I got due to only 5 or so bolts lining up with the block.

So this spacer that I need bolts to the crank and pushes the flexplate out farther? If so, where can I get this needed spacer?

Also.. the flex plate I have is an LS1 flexplate

You cannot use the LSX bell with the LT-1 trans. If indeed its and lt-1 style trans you will need to pull it back out and get the LT-1 BELL AND THEN YOU WILL NEED A SPACER FOR THE CONVERTER PILOT.

Sounds like a regular ole 4L60E seeing how only five bolts lined up.
Needs a crank pilot spacer. Or a complete LS1 conversion. Bell, stator tube and input, converter.

Ya, the trans shop I am working with must know nothing.. I specifically tell them what I need, and they give me something else... I hope they will swap me bell housings for the correct one, no point in having 5 bolts when I can have them all in. Not sure where to even start looking for this spacer I need

YOU CAN'T USE AN LS1 BELLHOUSING WITH THAT TRANSMISSION....unless you change the input, stator tube and converter ALSO.

Ok, now im relly confussed. I sent pics to Performabuilt and he said that I need a new ls1 bell housing and a spacer...

maybe I should post the pictures of my setup in here

When I i put the torque converter in, my measurements came out right from the bell housing to the converter pads so... I guess I'll just put up some pictures and try to figure this out once and for all
