Default th400 to ls1 starter doesnt engage all the way

I have a th400 attached to the back of my ls1 with factory flat flywheel and spacer installed. I found that whenever i crank over the car somtimes the starter engages but whenever under a lot of stress it just spins like its not catching anything. somtimes it doesnt catch right off the bat. I figured it was just a bad starter. Got a NEW starter from the local parts store and its still doing the same thing. Just by glancing at it the starters nose doesnt seem to extend far enought into the flywheel teeth to make full contact. Anyone else run into this problem? If so what was your solution?

Not sure by reading your post. Are you using a factory ls1 flywheel? If not then I think that is your issue. Vince

I'm using the factory flywheel with a spacer to put the flywheel farther from the block

I am running the same setup, 4l80 spacer, and a stock LS1 starter. Haven't had any issues for almost a year now
