hey guys, i know some people skimp on installing teflon seals on the stator and input shaft.. But I have come up with an easy way to resize them...

Just use a hose clamp, use it over the seal, and tighten in til it bottoms out.. I prefer to use my snap-on drill.. But you can do it by hand, it'll just take longer.. Then i let it sit for about a minute. And voila.. It's worked for me for 2 years..

sorry, i know this aint a tech question, but it mightg help some one out there, and save you a couple hundred in tools..

I don't like that because it puts dimples in the seals. You can use the same method, but put a piece of thin plastic around the seals first.

Yes,
A hose clamp will cut up the seal without the plastic under it.

You can also use electrical tape wrapped tightly on them to size them down.

dont they make split rings for those-thats what i thought i used from Transgo-the biggest problem with the split ones, is holding them in place during assemb.-i use asmb. grease, seems to work-are the split any better/worse that the 1 piece?

I used a combination of zip ties, and a spray paint cap cut up with hose clamps to shrink mine back down. I had an extra seal kit and tried installing a few with just the hose clamps, and the groves cut into the seal.

I think they dont hold their shape over the heat cycles, creating cross leaks

Zip ties to shrink em just a bit then finish the resize with an old stator support.

I used a plastic spray paint lid, and cut it the fit around center support ,and used four water clamps , one for each sealing ring , worked perfectly.

I rebuilt my own 4l80, and never bought th first tool,The over drive piston was tricky tho.

Tried all those tricks once upon a time. Either damaged the seals or fought trying to get it all lined up. Got the real tool on ebay for 40 shipped. Sometimes you just get lucky. For the stator ones I found a piece of pvc that fit perfect. Cut a slit and used a large hose clamp to squeeze it down. No tears or bumps.
