Default 4l80e Fluid level?

Does anyone know the proper fliud level if you have the pan off. I think my dip stick is marked wrong. I filled it to the bottom of the hot mark and it loses pressure at the top of first gear. I added another quart (over the full line) and it works perfect.

its a little above the top of the pan, maybe 1/4"-when you remove the pan, fluid will run out-i remember when i shortned my stick, i think i had it low, as i added fluid pressure got higher-i have a stick/tube in the garage, and a spare 4l80e, if i get a chance, i'll stuff it in there, see if i can tell you exact

ok, i went out and looked at a spare stick/tube-there is a "rib" at the bottom of the filler tube, where it hits the seal and stops-2" down from that rib is the fill mark(on the stick), which is just about the gasket on the pan-hope that makes since
sometimes one side of the stick will look higher than the other, i suspect it rubs some fluid on it, so i read both sides a couple times, use the low side as the fill

Man, thanks for the info. This saves me a trip to the dealer to measure another one.

Btw, nice '69.
