Default Recommend me a good LS1 flexplate..

Im probably going to end up buying a new one soon and I was just wondering if you guys had any recommendations for a "high performance" one . Would I be alright with just a stock one or will I need one that will handle more power..are they lighter? The motor will be pushing about 550 bhp. Its going to be fitted to a 4L60e with a PT4400

The cheapest SFI flexplate you are gonna find is the CAT Power. Its steel and not light by any means (about twice as thick as the stocker), but it looks 10 times stronger then the factory stamped garbage. They can be had as low as $75 shipped. If you want to step up to one thats lighter and stronger (aluminum I believe), you are looking to spend $200++. The expensive flexplates are very damn nice though

I'm pondering on changing mine now since the tranny is out. I hear the ones on the ls2 are stronger but I wouldnt mind saving a few lbs and having one I wont have to worry about down the road for what ever I do.

yall remember a heavier fp and rotating assembly will give a harder launch, dont spend too much time trying to save weight here its a give and take.

We dont have cheap flexplates but we have the best. They are billet aluminum and weigh 5.8 lbs. The cost is 289.00 plus the ride.

So does less rotating mass here make it rev faster? Or higher? More efficiency?

Sorry for the newbie question, but it sounds like theres some debate on this matter above.

a lighter FP will rev faster, and will put down more whp too. A heavier plate will have more inertia when the trans brake lets go or you mash the gas and the motor revs up and hits the flash stall, with more inertia it will hit the tires harder resulting in a harder launch. you can buy weights to bolt to a FP to increase this effect.

All that being said, aftermarket stall converters are typically much lighter than stockers.

IMHO, if it is a DD, get any steel FP you want and save ur money for something more effective, if its a stalled ( say 2800 or higher ) and a street car get a lightweight FP, that way it revs up to stall speed faster when the third honk comes. if its a track car with a super high stall and trans brake, get the heaviest FP you can put ur hands on and bolt the weights to it.

Greg- thats a nice piece, wish i had known about that a few weeks ago, i didnt go for anything lighter than the CAT piece cuz i couldnt find a good one under $350. guess i dint look hard enough is that FP set up for a 6 bolt converter? cant tell in tha pics, what brand is it?

CAT power piece is like $100 plus shipping but had i known about that one ^ ida bought one as its relatively inexpensive and several pounds lighter. most other aluminum FP's i saw were $375, $425 etc and with my basic mods didnt seem like a good value.

Hughes SFI here. Model HP4004. Good price ($129), perfect fit. No drilling or ovaling holes required.

Just an FYI, the CAT flexplate is rebadged quite often. Its distinctive gold coloring and hole stamp pattern are dead give-a-ways.

Any of these work with an 8" converter?

I know the TCI will not work with our 8" ATI converter. Called TCI and they said their FP is only for use on 10" or greater TCI converters. You have to drill it to use an 8". No thanks.
