Very soft shifts after TC install
I just finished installing my Vig 3600 torque converter and it runs fantastic. My only concern is that the shifts feel very soft now. Before the TC I had 3 spacers in the accumulator when i did my shift kit and it shifted HARD. It spun my DR's on the 1-2 shift every time. I don't need it THAT hard but it feels softer than stock now. Is that normal?
Also, is it a good idea to have it tuned, atleast via mail order, now that i have the TC? I had a mail order done by frost a few months ago and this is the only change I've made since then.
Thank you all.

Well what can be done about that? Is it just manufacturer specific or a bad converter?
Also, will making more flywheel power make the shifts firmer? Not sure if that has anything to do with it. It's a 3600 stall, so it's a little large for my current setup, but i knew i"d be doing a cam in the next few months and then it would be right on...

Yes you will have to tune it in. I have an Edge 3600 stall on my GTO and the shifting was very soft. I'm waiting till later this year to get the whole car dyno tuned in. Although performance wise it dropped 2/10ths of the 60's and almost 4/10ths off the ET. Everyone tells me that once I get the TC tuned in, I'll ge even better results.

In fact the shifts themselves are no softer than the were, They are simply being absorbed at the least the shock by the converter since the coupling is not as direct.
If the shifts were very firm before converter I would not do anything in and attempt to get feel back like raising the line as you could cause damage.
Remember where it may not feel as firm to you from the trans perspective and impact on clutch retainer rings and such nothing has changed.

One thing to think about is the converter is really slipping until after it reaches 3600 in the op's case. If you climb into the throttle hard the converter will tighten up after 3600 and the shifts will be more pronounced. With a vig 3600 I would say around or above 4000rpm. Try going wot and see if you notice a difference. Vince B
