Default Is there a way to test transmissions, or cost for a shop to inspect?

I know these are very odd questions but I don't know the answer to them. I have a built 4l60e that came with the car I purchased from the previous owner. He does not have any receipts for it being built (was done by a friend of a friend).

My two questions are,

Is there some kind of computer program that can hook up to this transmission and test it? My car has a blown shortblock & thus I haven't been able to drive the car yet.
Also, how much could I expect to take the trans to a shop to have them inspect it & let me know what they find, and put it back together?

Well if a shop has a dyno they can put in on and test it but most do not. A tear down and inspect at most shops will leave you with very near the cost of a rebuild I am afraid and since most regular shops are set up to sell a build likey they will tell you thats what you need anyway I am afraid.
