Default tranny/converter=low hp?

so, i know the tranny and torque converter needs to be replaced, the tranny has given me problems in the past, and now the converter wont flash at all, it just slowly climbs like as if there was no stall at all. question is.

Can a bad tranny/converter rob power? Up to 50-70hp?

Of course, friction eats power. If something is screwed up creating too abnormally high friction in the wrong places it will cause loss in power at the wheels.
