Question Just drove my SS after swapping my M6 to 4L80E.. have Qs...

First off... holy hell this thing is a whole different animal!

I havent taken it on the freeway yet.. but had one specific Q about O/D and lockup.

When in town should I leave it in 3rd? Keep O/D for the freeway?

Ive heard it many times.... the term lockup. I know what it means but Ive read where people mention they can tell when its in lockup vs not lockup. How will I know when the car is in lockup? The PCM reserves this for freeway speeds?

Any info would be great....

In your torque converter there is a clutch that locks the engine side of the torque converter and the transmission side together in a 1 to 1 ratio. That means there is no slippage in the torque converter.

You can tell when it is locked up because the engine RPM and MPH should be moving as if it were a manual.

Keep this in mind....Torque converters build the majority of the heat in the transmission fluid. If it is locked up, it is much easier to keep it cool.

Thanks guys... relating it to a M6 is the easiest way to explain it to me.

Also nick, in the stock computer you can adjust the lock up speed to whatever you want it to be 45-55 etc is where I would put it depending on if at the lower speeds the car would try to surge when locked up which is usually decided on how big the cam is and how good of a tune is on the car.

You will notice when it locks up it is pretty distinct. and od is perfectly fine on the street to keep the rpms down.

let me know if you have any questions. you can pm me or whatever.
