Default t56 to 4l80e

How much needs to be changed out to swap transmissions. Is it even worth it to do the swap?

im not compleatly sure about the switch yet, but with putting out more horsepower and launching the car harder, i just dont trust the t56. Would it be feasable to build a 4l80e for my car with a good stall for less than 1500?

If you are including selling the T56 setup, yes.

Well excluding the 4l80e price what would i need to put it in? Would i need to rebuild the transmission or is it strong enough stock.

you will need a cross member, notch trans tunnel, cut off pass ear of trans, drive shaft,controller/mvb,shifter/linkage,trans lines.but if are making power it is a good choice it will a have better chance of lasting than a 4l60.i love my 4l85e

Driveshaft length is the same, just uses a different yoke. If you are using a stock driveshaft and need a 4L80, it is time to upgrade though.

Thats alot more than i thought. What needs to be done as far as tuning. I know you cant just slap the transmission in and fire it up.
P.S. have an upgraded driveshaft.

If the car doesn't see a lot of daily driving (I read 383) I'd suggest a built Th350. There are a lot of folks near your area that can build a 3-speed auto that'll hold up (at least for a while!) for pretty cheap.

A good converter is paramount if you want the car to launch hard and put up good MPH.

If you keep a T56 you WILL still tear them up every so often and you WILL eat a clutch about once a year. Spending $500 on a clutch every year gets old to me. I think there is definitely a reason why nearly all cars at the track are autos. Granted, it's not as fun as a 6-speed on the street, but you may have a lot more fun running consistent times every week.
