Default Stall's w/ stock cover/lock-up disc?

I know the billet cover and steel lock up disc that yank/vig/circle d uses is the best but can you get anyway with a 3600 stall in with the stock cover/lock-up disc for awhile. I have a well known transmission guy selling a 3600 converter for cheap without the billet cover and steel disc. My car is a DD in the summer with lots of highway driving about 6k/year for an ls1. It's and 99 ls1 with 60k. I don't beat on it really at all on the street and probably only like <20 track passes a year. He says this converter will drive and hit just like a ss3600 and I have talked someone who has the same one to back it up. He hasn't had the converter for long though (6 months) so I'm a little worried about durability. Let me know what you guys would do. If I don't buy this one I don't see myself spending 700+ for a lock up one and I know a NEED a stall.

PTC is a good converter and I also know people that are running TCI's.

You can get a PTC any stall you like for about 500.00 .(Brand New) and they come with anti balloon plates.

I ran a non billet 3200 for a year and a half and it held up great. It wasnt stock size though, it was the reman cavalier converters, which is pretty standard for the 9 inch non-billet models from various manufacturers. What size is the one you are talking about? I believe stock is 11 inch.

If you are at all worried about performance or durability, this is not something you want to go the cheap route with. You will regret it every time you drive your car. Spend your money else where if you are not going to get a quality stall. I prefer Yank.

You should look into that group buy they are having on here if your looking to save a buck.

Yeah it is a 9.5 inch converter. It's from a respectable trans/stall builder in my area everyone nearly goes through him. He does sell the billet one's for double the price but said he could guarantee it would last in my car for over 2 years. He also said that it would 60' and drive identical to the billet ones like yank or his own. I just wanted to see what you guys had to say before I took the plunge. I mean I would just buy the billet one but I still have to get a tune, drag rim/tires and misc. stuff for the stall.

Im even now considering not getting one at all since I never race it on the street and few track passes. I starting to think that the worse drivability won;t be worth it being a little faster.

get a good stall and the driveability wont be any worse man. I love my FTI. Its super tight on the street, but when you nail the happy pedal, it flashes like no body's business!!! This is def an area you dont want to skimp in.

you wont be a little faster, you will be a lot faster. You car will snarl, swell up and **** rubber like there is no tomorrow. Stalls are a ******* blast. I have a few vids of my 3200 in action. You can drive and recreate these with your stock stall as a comparison. Try the locked in 2nd at 20 mph punch and see how your stock stall likes that ****

This is a second gear pull from low speeds and about 1/2 to 3/4 throttle

Don't ever lock a cheap smaller diameter stall up under power or you'll smoke the clutch.

Personally I always wondered how long a cheap cavalier stall would last if the clutch was removed since that's the main failure point.

I have a non-billet 9.5 or 10 inch (I forget which) from Mike Ridings. About 10,000 miles of trouble free service thus far.
