need help diagnosing problem plz
ok i got a performabuilt lvl 2 trans and their torque converter which stalls atound 3700(was usppose to be 3k) anywho i have less than 5k miles on it and im trying to figure out if i need a new converter or trans already. in drive when the converter locks i can hear a slight grinding/floor board virbration around 45-50 mph cruising but in OD when the convert locks around 50-55 its horrible grinding/vibration but when i give it some more throttle it stops till im back in them same mph ranges....and once on the way home it seemed like it was jerking back and forth like the converter was cycling between lockups real quick. any help would be appreciated guys thanx.

Are you experiencing any trans or engine related codes? Are you sure that the exhaust or drive shaft are not touching the body? With the noise you described and not being able to hear the noise, it is hard to say.
Also since you had the trans did you do any tunning for lockup? There are many things that can effect the out come of tcc life. Have you dropped the pan to do an inspection of the fluid condition or cut open the filter to look for lockup clutch material?
If you feel that it is the converter making noise then check some of the things mention above and get back to us. Giving Frank a call would be a good idea as well. Vince

It while possible would be unlikley for a trans of converter to make a grinding noise without eminate failure.
I would drop the pan and check also I would check for codes the converter itself cannot cycle off and on however the PCM can command it to.
Its never a good idea to run a high stall however without being tuned for it. It can have serious effects on the life of both the converter clutch and in time the trans to.
