4l60e Shift Problem
OK, I am on my 3rd 4l60e since buying the car in May 2009 and the same problem keep showing its ugly face. The car shifts fine 1st to 2nd but doesn't want to go to 3rd and 4th. This has happened with all 3 transmissions which is making me think the problem is somewhere else. Also the fluid looks burnt after 500 miles or so. Any help!

I had that same problem (mine turned out to be a stuck solenoid) so I just did a 4L80 conversion and so far so good. But it could be a solenoid that is your problem. Something in your car can be frying the wiring in there and making it go bad if this is the third transmission that you had with this same problem. I am not a transmission expert by far but with you getting burnt fluid could me something is failing to open and flow the fluid or something internal is damaged. I would say let the car be save up get a good trans from a sponsor and while it is out check your wiring going to the trans

Thanks for your advice. I think thats the next thing is to get me a Performabuilt Level 2. Tired of waisting money ya know. But I still need to figure out whats going on with this problem, maybe it is in the harness somewhere.

i had one that did this to me and it wound up being the stator sleeve in the pump had turned, so it wasnt giving enough pressure to 3-4 clutchpack to last more than a few months. it could be a solenoind or wiring issue too like stated before so dont count that out.
the only thing with the solenoid or wiring is usually it doesnt burn the fluid granted there are some, but most of the time if you're getting burnt fluid its a hydraulic issue not electronic

if this is with multiple units and they were rebuilt and very low milage before each failure. I would suspect a presure issue since third gear would feel this effect and be damaged the quickest. I would check that the TPS and the engine MAF sensor are working properly and that the MAF and air filter are clean and no oil in the MAF this can cause low line

The first 2 were rebuilt, but the last is a different unit. I'm going to find a different tuner the next time, maybe they can find something in the tune. I'm also going with a good built trans this time around, not a local rebuilt one.
