Question 2002 Z28 A4 Acceleration Issue. Please Help!!!

I appreciate any help that anyone can give...Thanks! About a month ago I got in the car and started driving. Car was shifting fine heading up the highway. After about 20 minutes of driving up the highway I came to a stop light. Light turned green and as I excelerated the trans shifted fine through the gears and into high gear. But after a couple minutes at around 60 mph I lost acceleration. The rpm's stayed reved up but the acceleration was gone. I let it coast for a bit and kept trying the pedal but it would rev up but not accelerate. I pulled over and sat for a minute and then tried driving again and all gears shifted smoothly back up into high gear. I took my foot off the gas at around 60 mph and the put my foot back down and I had acceleration. Then about 5 minutes later it happened again. It has happend periodicaly ever since once I have been driving for 20 inutes or so. And it will continue once it starts until The car sits turned off for a while. Also, when it happens if I hit the brakes and the car slows down enough to down shift the gears on its own I will get acceleration back or if I manualy shift down into D for a moment and then back into over D it will accelerate for a while before it happens again. Again, I appreciate any insight you might be able to give me.

start by checking the fluid. make sure it doesn't look burnt.

If the fluid level is correct, I would drop the pan and inspect for anything I could see that looks out of place. Good luck

My car did this exact same thing; I made a thread or two in here about it. It ended up being the input shaft. It was bleeding off pressure until eventually it would start slipping on the highway. I'd get to where I was going, shut it off, and then when I'd start driving it again it would work fine for about 10 miles or so and then start slipping again. Had the input shaft replaced, problem solved (although now it shifts weird from 1-2 and 3-4).
