Default Does my stall need to be refreshed? (4L60E w/3500 stall)

What are the signs/symptoms of a stall that needs to get refreshed or maybe even replaced? My transmission has started to shift weird. All the gears are there but it hesitates after it shifts into third. It stays in third for a while then goes into OD, I think. Then when I'm on the freeway and have it on cruise control @ 70mph the rpms are at 21-2200 then bounces to 2500. It goes up, down, up, down, etc. between that range, it never did that.

This started happening when I got on it one day and got up to about 120mph, then I accidentally put it in neutral and coasted to a normal speed. After that it hasn't been quite the same.

What did I do? Any thoughts?

alot of that is your converter locking and unlocking. Does it shift slow at Wide open

That's kind of what I thought it was. It gets up to speed and shifts O.K. at WOT.
Now, how does one fix the locking and unlocking part?

could be a lock up clutch being triggered by false missfires depending on the cam size. mine would randomly lock/unlock when it was first tuned

if the cam is stock it isn't likely the problem unless you have a mechanical issue( bent valve, bent pr, ect). you can have someone turn off the missfire detection in the pcm and see if the problem goes away. with the stock cam it isn't likely

I wonder if you over revved the car and caused a mechanical issue. I would find someone who can help you datalog. Does the car have any cel codes?

Yeah, I just got a code today. P1870. This code states "Transmission component slipping". I've already changed the oil and filter but found no shavings or anything unusual in the pan. I'm not really educated on the internal components of this transmission or the stall. Do I need a rebuild of either one? This transmission/stall is supposed to be rated at 700hp I haven't even broken 400! This sucks.

So I put a stock converter back in and the code has not re-appeared. Does this mean the 3500 stall is going bad?

Did you have the tune changed for the 3500? If not that might have caused the code. When you shift the trans into netraul at that speed you caused the internal parts of the trans to speed up 2 to 2.5 times the engine rpm. DO NOT DO THAT, it is dangerous and can cause your trans to explode, causing damage and possible personal injury or even death. Rossler has a right up on this at their web sight.

You might have damaged the trans when you did this.

Yeah, the tune was changed for the 3500 stall. I spoke with the builder and he said it may be as simple as a wrong washer in the servo. They're sending me one, I really hope that's all it is. They also said they have only had to rebuild two or three of their converters in the last three years so he was 99% sure it was not the stall. We'll see.
