Default Stepped on it....car shuttered, now what?

My car is a 2000 Trans Am with 114,000 miles. It has had a Yank SS3200 converter, a B&M 24000 cooler, TransGo shift kit, and a deep pan since 89,000 miles.

Today I went to accelerate to change lanes and the whole car shuttered. I thought "What the hell was that?!". I slowed down and tried it again......same result. I went to pull into a parking lot and the car was real sluggish and unresponsive, I would give it gas and it didnt' seem to want to go. In the mile I drove to get to the parking lot my trans temp went from 180 to 220 (the trans NEVER gets above 200 even in stop and go traffic). If I free rev the engine in neutral or park it shakes the whole car. The fluid is still clean and does not smell burnt. What am I looking at here? Did the converter go?

The whole car was shuttering, and the trans temp skyrocketed. I wish it were something that simple but I doubt it. Nonetheless I'll check it out. Thanks!

The trans temp will go up if you dont have lockup which will be disabbled by engine missfire which is what it sounds like you may have

Decided to drive the car around the block to get a better feel for what it's doing, I don't have the money to have it looked at yet so I'm just speculating at this point. The engine runs fine, but the car is very sluggish....I found out that if I pull the gear selector into "1" the car will not go anywhere. The car acts like it wants to engage but it doesn't. Driving in second the car will start to emit a high pitched whine. I'm not even sure if the car has first gear. I programmed the computer to lock the converter in second at 16mph to see how it drove with a locked converter. I don't think the converter even locked up. That's all I have for now......still saving to have it looked at. Any ideas?

*Update to thread*

Found out almost a year later (after letting it sit due to life and a lack of funds) that the trans broke the input drum. I have been on very limited funds and reached out a few weeks ago in the Florida section to see if anyone could help me out. I met Robert (predator T/A) and he offered to help me out and offered a full rebuild in exchange for a firearm.

I pulled the trans and drove 2 hours to Jacksonville. In 15 minutes Robert had the trans apart and showed me what broke and why. Apparently my trans had been tuned to lock the converter during upshifts. This, combined with my Trans Go shift kit was very hard on the input drum and it broke.

I owe many thanks to Robert, he helped me out in a very big way! He also gave me the necessary fluids and a battery to get my car back on the road. Its great to meet members from this forum that truly go out of their way to help one another.

yeah vince the pic of the shattered input drum i sent to you was his drum. we decided since we were in it to go ahead and do a beast sunshell, HD sprag, new pump ans the basic rebuild. hrd to belive that the car still moved withthe input drum like that. the way it broke the reverse input drumn was holding it together lol.
