Default Transmission Advice

Hi Everyone,

I'm planning a conversion of a 5.3 into a 95 FZJ80 Land Cruiser. I've been reading a lot, but need your advice. The land cruiser weights 6,200lbs empty. I do plan on towing but not more than 4-5000lbs.

What your opinion on using a 4l60 or a 4l80? I see they are putting the 4l60 in pickups and it seems a tough tranny.

Thank you.

If you're going to be doing a lot of 4-5000lb towing, then it would be in your best interest to go with the 4l80e or 4l85e.

Defiantly get a 4l80 or 85 I think the 60 would break again and again....

My Silverado SS weighs 5750lbs without me in it. It has the LQ9 and a 4L65E. I broke 3 transmissions when I had the magnacharger on it. I removed the maggie and have had no further transmission problems. I have towed a 7000lb camper, enclosed trailer, and numerous cars on trailers with the 4L65E, a Trailblazer torque converter, billet servos, shift kit. It has stock clutches in it as I bought a 10 mile unit and put my upgrades into it.
