Default tranny temps

finally go tmy tranny temp gauge hooked up, so i wanted to know what the stock tranny temps are?? i havent added my 24k cooler yet. but yesterday after work drinving about 30mile trip temps got as high as 190-195 close to 200, in 95 degree weather (felt more like 100+) is this an ok temp. sending unit is located in the pressure port for now. and is it 10-15 more with it being installed there, right??

Yes, it will show a higher reading there in the pressure port. If its as hot in TX as it is here, I'd say you are doing pretty good with those readings. Bypass your stock radiator cooler as it actually acts as a warmer and you will see the biggest drop in temps. Run your standalone B+M by itself.

Anything under 200* is fine. In the summer heat mine stays in the mid to upper 170's.

Is it normal for the tranny temps to go above 200 during drag racing and hard driving?? Mine is reaching 250 degrees during full throttle acceleration.

That's definitely not a good temp to be at.

Do you have a cooler? They are very easy to install, you should get one.

Also look into a good synthetic ATF. I run Redline and it does reduce operating temps when your beating on it. Amsoil is also another choice, although I like that redlines approach to formulating fluid isn' a one or two atf's fits all. As heat kills transmissions, fluid and cooling is VERY important followed by upgrading filtration. A drop of 10-20 degrees is usually observed when switching to a quality synthetic atf. They can also be kept in service twice as long, everything else being equal.

What Redline do you use? I was thinking of changing.
