Rebuild the old tranny or buy a new one? The tranny in my '95 LT1 just took a dump for the second time after a crappy rebuild and needless to say I'm pretty pissed.
There's a local guy (I live in Iceland btw!) who knows his **** when it comes to 4l60e's. I definitely trust him for a rebuild but I'm still pretty skeptic about the whole thing because I can absolutely not afford for it to fail again.
Keep in mind this is only a bolt-on LT1 car. Might end up cammed next year, not sure. I don't really know much about transmissions, but I've been looking at built ones from Performabuilt.
If I were to buy a tranny from them (or some other company), would Level 1 (rated at 500 RWHP) be more than sufficient? Is Level 2 (700 RWHP - sounds pretty extreme) maybe too much for my bolt-on LT1 regarding drivability?
Also, I just had 3.73's installed so I want to go with a stall while I'm at it.
If I go with a rebuild, does a Yank SS3200 sound good? I'm thinking the SS3600 might be too big since I don't plan on getting sticky tires. Or will I leave everything in tire smoke either way?
Or if I go with a tranny from Performabuilt, how are their custom converters?
I know I'll need a tranny cooler, but will I need a tune?
