Default Freshly rebuilt tranny makes clicking noise, no D or R

My friend just rebuilt his transmission and when we started the engine its making a clicking noise, in park, reverse, neutral, and all forward gears....

when he puts it in reverse or drive, nothing happens cept once in a while for a split second the car trys to move, then stops...

i dont know **** about autos but i told him it was probly the pump, what do you guys think?

With noise and no movement a pump would be a good place to start.

contacted performabuilt, he suggested I disconnect the cooler line while the cars running, and if fluid sprays out then we know the pump is good, if it doesnt, the pump is bad

You need more than six quarts. BTW never stab a trans with the converter already connected to the flexplate.

yeah you need to install the converter on the trans before bolting it up to the engine. you cant just leave it on the engine like FLT said. definitaly not good. Rookie mistake

its pretty hard to do that on a 4l65e, there is no access pannel like on the 4l60es and 700r4s..

also - put another 2 gallons in and the car is a ******* demon!!

thanks performabuilt

What do you mean there is no access panel? Take out the starter and you do the TC bolts, rotate the flexplate through the hole on the bottom or the side the starter is on.

I can't believe you didn't kill the pump doing it that way. Lucky.
