Default Does your stalled auto unlock when coasting?

Does your stalled auto unlock when you left off the throttle? When you roll back into the throttle does it take a couple hundred rpm rise in rpm before the lock up clutch fully engages and brings the rpm back down?

As long as im above the lock up speed it stays locked. Only time it unlocks is when i press the brakes or go below the lock up speed while coasting.

hope that helps

I'm trying to figure out why my convertor unlocks, some say it's normal others say it's not.

depends who you ask, it's a built trans and circle D convertor, when you do a search on tech and HPtuners there's quite a few people who say when your tps goes to 0% open it unlocks the convertor, my 98 suburban does it.

Mine does it. Then locks back up when I push the throttle again. I think it is fine.

So just as your about all the way off the throttle you feel it unlock? When you just roll into the throttle you feel it lock? Does the rpm climb a little first before the lock up clutch catches it?

My car the rpm climbs about 200rpm before the lock clutches engages and brings it back down does that sound about right for your set up?

Yea pretty much right on then when it locks up it goes back down. It feels like a 5th gear it down shifts when I get out of it then RPMs climb maybe 200 then when it locks it is like an OD gear. I think that is the best way to describe it.

My car was tuned a short time after the stall and that really helped too.

You don't want the TC to release instantly the tps goes to 0 %; otherwise you would have a very annoying problem with TC cycling between unlock and lock. That's why it depends on the TCC release mph and TCC lockup mph.

Does your cars unlock as soon as your off the throttle? Any delay or just when you get off the throttle it releases? I think it's annoying.

Your right it's annoying, but I'm still above the TCC release mph when it does this by at least 10mph.

You can change the parameters for lock and unlock when coming into and releasing throttle. Factory generally the will unlock on tilt out and relock on tilt in but of course unlock if you tilt in hard.
The factory tuning is set up basically for it to only be locked at a steady throttle cruising not on decel or acceleration.
Now as to How you set those parameters you will need to talk to a tuner about that.
But pretty much with no ajustments in tuning that is normal and will of course be alot more noticable the higher the stall speed and of course the higher the rpm the more the rpm jump and drop will be depending of of course speed and rpm at the time.

The vehicles with the PWM TCC solenoid will unlock smoothly while off the gas and lock smoothly when you get back on it. GM did them like that to improve smoothness durring the transition unlike the older non PWM solenoids that were on and off only with no in between.PWM systems use duty cycle in % to control the TCC solenoid. Most of the older ones stay locked on decel until you hit the brake or speed drops. Theres nothing wrong with your car.

It does it on most truck tunes , and you can't tune it out on 80E tunes (that I've found).

OK figured it out with the help of Frost, the tcc uses input from a brake pedal switch, if the pcm doesn't see a constant 12v it will unlock the convertor at 0% tps. I had a connector pin pushed back at the switch.

On my car it's pin 33 ppl wire, it should see 12v with key on.
