Default How much for tc install

Anyone know what the price range would be to have a shop switch out a tc?

I would guess $3-500. I would ensure (if going to an aftermarket TC) that they space it properly and I would buy an SFI flexplate for them to install also.

Just do it yourself. For what you would spend on a good jack, jack stands, and a full toolset to do the job is what you would pay the shop.

He may not have the experience or space to swap the tc's. If I were you which I'll be doing ask around, call some shops up that you know and get a price.

That sounds about right. Also recommend a good AUX cooler. Although you can do this yourself later.

I wouldn't really throw around experience as an excuse not to do this. Its a pretty striaght forward job. You have 2 starter bolts, 3 converter bolts, 6 bell bolts, 4 driveshaft nuts, torque arm bolts (depends if he already switched over to a tunnel mount), shifter cable nut, and 4 bolts on the mount. Cut your lines since your going to be putting in an after market cooler (hydraulic lines or stainless lines to compression fittings on the stock lines) and its out. Just make a weekend project out of it in a friends garage and your good to go.

I usually like to do everything myself. I have jackstands, ramps, and a jack. How for off the ground does the car need to be? Im at a time right now where I dont feel like screwin around to get it done. When I do thing ESPECIALY for the first time it takes me 10 xs as long than everyone else. I think I just might pay someone done.

Just get a good set of large jack stands and put it in the air. Not the little hoakey ones. If you do any work on your car a set of 4 good jack stands is always needed. Once the trans is on the floor and if you need a little more room you can always jack it up a little higher. Also make sure you have plenty of extensions and a good socket swivel. Its a time consuming job i'm sure if its your first time but really its not hard by any means. Just take a weekend and get it done. I always take them down one day and put them up the other and i've done it plenty. I switched from a th350 to a th400 and then back to the 4l60e which is what is in the car now. Also an extra set of hands and eyes is not a bad thing to have either. It will help you from going from one side to the other as often, but i've taken them out by myself a couple of times as well.

the bottom part of the car needs to be about 18inches off the ground for it to slide out from underneath.

Actually you dont really need it that high since you can do everything under the car and leave everything on the jack. all your doing is sliding on a converter.

This post is wrong for so many reasons. Mr. professional just throws the **** in there and tells you to cross your fingers. Why I don't let others work on my car. Ever.

If you can find someone to do it for 300 or so, that'd be a good price for the work involved.

I've done it several times now. It's not horrible, but it's a days work with hand tools.

Shouldn't be that hard for you to do as long as you don't have the bastard allen headed torque converter bolts like I did. If you do, they'll strip and you'll have to weld nuts to them (through the tiny *** starter hole), and then take them out. If you do do it yourself and have these bolts, I'd recommend heating them a little first to break down some of the factory loctite that's on them and then try getting them out without them stripping, but good luck.

Also, there's a thread in the stickies with a link in it to another website with a nice step-by-step.
